I Think I'll Go For A Jog Outside?

A few blocks from our house there is a lake that has a paved walking path all the way around it. I'm pretty bad at estimating, but to go all the way around the lake is probably less than a mile. But it is a beautiful location, surrounded by a park, budding trees, and a fantastic view of the Flatirons. Aside from the goose poo that is all over the grass this time of year, it is an ideal place to go walking.

We've been taking River walking there lately because she gets twice as much exercise when we let her jump in the lake after a stick or a ball. Pros? She's nearly impossible to wear out, so we need all the help we can get!  She behaves better when she gets exercise. Cons? She smells like dirty lake. And then the goose poo in the grass sticks to her more when she rolls in it. (Not going to lie: we still let her on our bed sometimes.) But she just looks so unbelievably happy splashing through the lake after the ball, like nothing better in the world ever happened to her, that I just can't resist. It makes me happy to watch her.

In any event, I don't know if it was the fresh air, the gorgeous day, or the the fact that we were both wearing practically unused running shoes, but today APL and I decided to jog halfway around the lake. I'll repeat that: jog. Cons? It hurt my bad knee and both of my hips. I got tired pretty fast. Pros? Even though it hurt some joints, it somehow also felt good too. I think maybe it also made me feel more energized and focused this afternoon.

Halfway around the lake isn't very far, but at least I jogged at all!! Maybe I'll try again tomorrow. But don't hold me to it.

Good for you, lady! I don't think I can jog all around Viele these days (if I ever could).

WONDERFUL!

I will add, though, watch out for cops. The park's not technically an off-leash zone even though everyone does it and I definitely had a cop come up to me and inform me of this several years ago (I pretended I had just moved to the area, but it was before I took my oath, so it's coo).

TODAY'S UPDATE: To be fair, my hips are killing me today. But I still walked around the lake.

REBECCA: What the crap is Viele? Also, she's basically only off leash when she's IN the water. I'm careful about keeping her on when other people are around, even though pretty much all the dogs are off leash there. Plus if anyone gives me any trouble I plan to complain about how the dog park has been closed FOREVER. SHE NEEDS TO RUN AND I CAN'T KEEP UP!!! ~;o)

Hope your hips feel better soon. Maybe just jog a minute then walk if you feel the crazy urge to jog again – kinda ease your hips into it! That's how lots of people start running. Anyway, hope you feel tons better soon and have great, sunny, dog-swimming weather where you are!

Also, I'm sure you know this, but the type of shoes you're wearing affects your run A LOT. Even people without constant pain can get sore after running if they're wearing the wrong shoes. Just something to keep in mind!

MARIAH! Viele is the lake (silly)!

I didn't say don't let her run around off-leash, just be careful. Getting ticketed would sssssuuuucccckkk. ;)

Miss you.

LAURIE: Thanks, that's a good idea. Though stopping crazy urges is always hard!!

SARAH: Supposedly, I the right shoes - they videoed me on a tredmill and everything. Though there's all kinds of data about running shoes only making everything worse anyhow...

REBECCA: Umm.....I've never seen the word Viele ANYWHERE.....sounds French. I think you made it up.

Haha: "viele" in German means "many" – many jogs? many steps???? many cops???????
